Cozy room with laptop for studying hard anime

I remember a time in college when I had to study for an important exam. I thought that the best way to prepare was to study for 24 hours straight, without taking a break. As an ambitious and determined student, I believed that my mind could handle it.

I couldn’t be more wrong.

After a few hours, my mind became tired and foggy, and my eyes strained from staring at my notes. I wasn’t retaining any of the information I was reading, and I felt defeated. Something has to give

I took a 30-minute break, went for a walk, and returned to studying with a fresh perspective. I felt re-energized and ready to tackle the material with renewed vigor. I learned that taking breaks doesn’t mean you’re being lazy, but rather, it’s a way to recharge and increase productivity.

Here’re some recommendations for young students who struggle with academic work management:

1. Study smarter, not harder:

It’s not about the number of hours you study, but rather how effectively you use that time. Develop a study plan that works for you and stick to it. Break down large tasks into smaller, more manageable ones, and take regular breaks to avoid burnout. Use active studying techniques like quizzing yourself and summarizing the material to help you retain the information.

2. Take care of yourself:

Your health and well-being are just as important as your academic performance. Take care of your physical and mental health by eating healthy, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and seeking support when needed. Take breaks throughout the day to recharge your mind and body.

3. Find motivation in others

As a university student, it’s important to build a support system and surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share similar academic and personal goals. You can join online Facebook groups like Study with GenZ or try using a website like LEAN Social to find study buddies.

4. Don’t compare yourself to others:

It’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to other students who seem to be studying longer or doing better than you. Remember that everyone is different and has different needs. Focus on your own progress and achievements, and don’t let others’ success discourage you.

5. Believe in yourself:

Success is not just about how many hours you study or how smart you are. It’s also about having confidence in yourself and your abilities. Believe in your potential to achieve your goals, and don’t let self-doubt hold you back. Surround yourself with supportive people who believe in you and your goals. And remember, setbacks and failures are a natural part of the learning process, so don’t give up when things get tough.

It’s important to remember that everyone is different, and there’s no set number of hours that work for everyone. The key is to listen to your body and take breaks when you need them.
