As I sat at my desk, staring blankly at my computer screen, I could feel the stress and anxiety building inside me. Deadlines were piling up, my inbox was overflowing, and my to-do list seemed never-ending. I was on the verge of a breakdown.
Little things in life can really life you up. Too sad we often neglect them
That’s when my girlfriend, Magnet, came over to my desk. She could see the look of distress on my face and suggested we called it a day. She led me outside and we took a stroll around the block. It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining down on us. For a moment, I forgot about my worries.
Now, whenever I feel stressed or overwhelmed, I remind myself to take a deep breath and find solace in these little things. I’ve learned that I don’t have to let stress and exhaustion take over my life.
Here are some strategies to build your life against stress as a young person
1. Don’t ever forget about social connections and your loved ones
Reach out to friends and family
Social support is important for your mental health. Reach out to friends and family when you need someone to talk to or when you are feeling stressed.
Connect with like-minded peers
As a university student, it’s important to build a support system and surround yourself with like-minded individuals. You can join online Facebook groups like Study with GenZ or try using a website like LEAN Social to find study buddies.
2. Train your mind to be resilient
Be present in the moment
Instead of worrying about what has happened in the past or what may happen in the future, focus on the present moment. Take a deep breath and observe your surroundings. This will help you to reduce stress and increase your sense of calm.
Pay attention to your thoughts
Mindfulness is about paying attention to your thoughts without judgment. When you notice your mind wandering, gently bring your focus back to your breath. This will help you to become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, and to better manage them.
Practice gratitude
Gratitude is an important aspect of mindfulness. Take a moment each day to reflect on what you are grateful for. This will help you to develop a more positive outlook on life and reduce stress.
3. Stop neglecting your health and wellbeing
Take breaks
It is important to take breaks throughout the day to avoid burnout. Take a walk, read a book, or meditate. These activities will help you to recharge and refocus.
Get enough sleep
Sleep is essential for your physical and mental health. Make sure to get enough sleep each night to improve your focus and reduce stress.
Eat a healthy diet
A healthy diet is important for your overall health and well-being. Make sure to eat a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. This will help you to feel better and have more energy throughout the day.
We all experience moments of stress and anxiety, but it doesn’t have to be that way. By taking the time to practice these 8 simple tips, you can find inner peace and relaxation in the midst of chaos. Don’t let stress and exhaustion take over your life.
