As a university student, I’ve learned the importance of maintaining focus and productivity. However, I’ve also learned that certain habits can hinder this progress. If you don’t know where to identify these weaknesses, I’ll share some habits that could destroy your focus and productivity.
If you put in the work, you too can overcome them.
1. Too Less/Too Much Sleep
The amount of sleep we get has a significant impact on our productivity. Sleeping too little or too much can lead to lethargy, decreased motivation and focus, and ultimately, a decrease in productivity.
The recommended amount of sleep for adults is 7-8 hours per night. To overcome this habit, set a consistent sleep schedule and stick to it. Avoid consuming caffeine or alcohol before bed, and create a sleep-conducive environment by keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.
2. Comfortable with Comfort! This is a Slow Growth Killer
Comfort can be a productivity killer. When we become too comfortable, we stop pushing ourselves towards growth and progress.
To overcome this habit, challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone daily. Set goals that are slightly outside of your comfort zone and work towards achieving them.
3. Staying in an Unhealthy Relationship
Unhealthy relationships can be emotionally draining, distracting, and hinder productivity.
To overcome this habit, take the necessary steps to end the relationship, seek help from a therapist or counselor, and surround yourself with supportive friends and family.
4. Thinking Travel is Just for Fun!
Travel can be a source of growth and inspiration, but it can also be a productivity killer if not managed correctly.
To overcome this habit, set aside designated travel times, plan your trips in advance, and prioritize your work responsibilities before leaving.
5. Overuse of Alcoholic Drinks
Alcohol may seem like a stress reliever, but overuse can lead to decreased productivity, health issues, and regret.
To overcome this habit, limit your alcohol consumption, seek help if you struggle with addiction, and find healthier ways to manage stress, such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones.
6. Lack of Social Activities
Humans are social animals, and social activities can have a positive impact on productivity.
To overcome this habit, prioritize social activities in your schedule, such as coffee dates with friends, group fitness classes, or volunteering.
7. Skipping Exercise
Exercise has been shown to improve productivity by boosting energy, reducing stress, and improving mental clarity.
To overcome this habit, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day, and find an exercise routine that you enjoy.
8. Skipping Sunlight
Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, which has been shown to improve mood and productivity.
To overcome this habit, take breaks throughout the day to get outside and soak up some sun.
9. Spending Before Earning
Spending before earning can lead to financial stress and decreased productivity.
To overcome this habit, create a budget, prioritize saving, and avoid impulse purchases.
10. Not Relaxing
Relaxation is essential for productivity because it helps reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
To overcome this habit, set aside designated relaxation time each day, such as taking a walk or meditating.
11. Waiting for Perfect Timing
Waiting for the perfect time to start a project or take action can lead to procrastination and decreased productivity.
To overcome this habit, set realistic goals and deadlines, and take action towards achieving them, even if the timing isn’t perfect.
12. Not Planning Your Day the Night Before
Not planning your day the night before can lead to wasted time and decreased productivity.
To overcome this habit, take a few minutes each night to plan your schedule for the next day, prioritize your tasks, and set achievable goals.
Are you ready to become more productive?
The habits we develop can have a significant impact on our focus and productivity. By identifying and overcoming these bad habits, we can improve our productivity, reduce stress, and achieve our goals.
